About Odin Makes

Odin Makes is a YouTube channel that has been described as "a cooking show for props". Each week, Odin puts together a cosplay prop based on pop culture such as film, anime, or video game. He shows the audience step-by-step how to create patterns, work with a variety of materials, and troubleshoot issues throughout the building process, which is both comical and relatable. The majority of his creations consist of EVA cosplay foam with other materials, out of which he makes helmets, weapons, shields, armor, and even full body cosplay suits.

Odin has been building costumes and props since his teens. In his early twenties, he built three elaborate cosplay suits of the band GWAR using foam from old couch cushions. These costumes were so detailed that there are photos of them floating around the internet mistaking the cosplayers for actual band members.

In 2015, when Odin was building props for SMOSH, he was asked to host some prop builds for DIY Prop Shop. That was when he decided to start making prop build videos of his own. With some help from a friend, he rented some shop space and came up with the name: Odin Makes.

Odin Makes: YouTuber and Personality

FFO: Marvel, Star Wars, DIY Channels, Pop Culture, Prop Builds

With over 35 years of experience, Odin’s builds started in the pre-internet era. Self-taught, he learned from books by Tom Savini and Dick Smith, as well as magazines like Cinefex and CineMagic. Odin honed some of his skills by building model kits, painting miniatures for tabletop games and by creating props and costumes for other prestigious productions.

In 2017 Odin started his YouTube channel Odin Makes, a DIY series about making props for cosplay, or just for display. Episodes focus on novice to intermediate skill levels, inexpensive materials, and often, minimal power tools. In each video the prop is taken from the very first step of pattern making to the finished painting and details; often featuring on-the-fly, on-screen problem solving. It's like a cooking show, but for props.

Episodes have included: the Infinity Gauntlet, Soul Edge from Soul Calibur, a full suit Gundam cosplay, and a full Mechagodzilla cosplay.

Gerry is a long-time friend of Odin thanks to an outgoing personality and a sandwich. Officially, Gerry is the Odin Makes Cosplay Repair Coordinator for the Odin Makes Cosplay Repair booth at SacAnime twice a year. Alongside being an award-winning cosplayer, Gerry is a visual artist and does logo and tattoo design, fine art and was the storyboard artist for the award-winning independent film, A Long Road to Tao. He also recently published his first novel, System Glitch.

Gerry has decades of experience as a maker, from building costumes and props for Halloween and theatre, to making sure his children had awesome Halloween costumes of their own. • Dan Domingo

DescriMy name is Danny Domingo, Jr. I've always been a maker without even knowing it. As a child, I started making stuff with paper, cardboard, plastics, craft sticks, and when I got older, wood, metal, 3D printing and, more recently, craft foam. I started my Youtube channel Dan Does Junk as more of a DIY channel of all the stuff I would be working on as well as my hobbies as my channel's motto is "Junk = Anything". That later became more of a prop and cosplay channel as the maker in me was reawakened when I discovered Odin Makes. Thanks to him I was able to create my first major cosplay, the Deathscythe Gundam from Gundam Wing. I learned so much from making that suit and will continue to pursue making and developing my skills and crafting methods as I work on more cosplays in the future.

  • Cosplay Cleric

I'm Cedar, the Cosplay Cleric. I've been going to conventions since 2010 but my passion is cosplay repair. Since 2014, I've been going to conventions exclusively to help fix costumes and so far, I've helped over 50,000 cosplayers with everything from safety pins to re-gluing soles. I love cosplay in all of its forms; it's a delight to be part of such a diverse community of people from all walks of life and all kinds of skill sets! I focus mainly on wigs, sewing and embroidery, but I've been dipping my feet into prop making, 3d printing, and EVA foam. I met Odin at SacAnime Summer 2024 and have been blessed to help with cosplay repair there ever since. I've learned so much from this crew of fabulous and talented cosplayers! Come visit us if you're ever in trouble; we'll help you out.
